Cleveland Artist Exhibits Artwork and Speaks at DPL Hispanic Heritage Month Event
The event
The unique artwork of Cleveland artist Hector Castellanos Lara will be on display in the community room at the Dover Public Library during the month of September as part of the library’s celebration of Hispanic Heritage month. Most of Castellanos Lara’s work is inspired by the colorful culture and people of his native Guatemala.
Castellanos Lara will speak at the closing reception on Thursday, September 26 at 6:30 PM. At that time, he will not only talk about his own artwork but also about the vibrant Latino art scene in Northeast Ohio. For decades, Castellanos Lara has participated in the Cleveland Museum’s Parade the Circle and the Chalk Festival. For the past three years, he has been the lead artist for the Parade the Circle event. He also organizes the annual Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) activities in November in the Gordon Square Arts District in west Cleveland. He teaches workshops including kite making, chalk drawing, and sawdust carpets. The exhibit is open during library hours during the month of September (Mon.-Thurs.9:00-7:00; Fri-Sat. 9:00-5:00). The speaking event will be on Thursday, September 26 at 6:30 PM. Register for the speaking event at doverlibrary.org/events or call the library at 330-343-6123.
