Discussion of David McCullough’s Johnstown Flood at Dover Library
The event
As part of a series of commemorative programs titled “The Legacy of the Johnstown Flood”, Jim Gill, director of the Dover Public Library, will lead a book discussion about David McCullough’s The Johnstown Flood on Wednesday, May 7 at 6:30 PM in the community room of the library, located at 525 N. Walnut Street.
Copies of the book, considered to be the definitive account of one of America’s greatest disasters, are available at the library. The author provides insight into the causes of the 1889 flood and the consequences it had on the people and industries of Johnstown, Pennsylvania. McCullough reveals the preventable nature of the tragedy set against the backdrop of Gilded Age America.
A visit to the Johnstown Flood Museum is planned for Friday, May 30. Those interested in participating are encouraged to contact Rieger or Gill at 330-343-6123.
