Dover Library to Celebrate Teen Literary Magazine
Coming Soon
The event
Saturday, May 24 at 2:00 PM, the Dover Public Library invites teen creators, families, and local supporters to the Tornado Alley: Volume 11 Reception. All featured authors will be given an opportunity to share their work out loud and all creators and editors will be recognized for their hard work in making this project possible. The event will also feature door prizes, giveaways, refreshments, and activities. Interested patrons can contact the library at 330-343-6123 for more information, but registration is not necessary for this event. Tornado Alley is funded by a 21st Century Afterschool Learning Grant with Dover High School.
Tornado Alley features a wide variety of work from local teens. The publication is printed locally and edited by teen volunteers with the help of Dover Public Library’s Teen Services Manager Liz Strauss. Each edition features poetry, art, creative nonfiction, and fiction from local teens in grades six through twelve.
“Our annual reception also serves as our launch party for the new edition,” says Strauss. “It is the first day the magazine is available to the public, with creators and their families having first dibs on copies. This year, our editors had some great ideas to make the reception a real party, and I’m very excited for the surprises we have in store for participants.”
Copies of the magazine will be available for free and are funded by a 21st Century Afterschool Learning Grant with Dover High School. This grant supports communities in creating learning opportunities outside of classroom walls. The partnership between Dover City Schools and Dover Public Library has resulted in Teen Subscription Boxes, 3D printing services, STEAM/STEM programming, and many other services and events.
Previous editions of Tornado Alley are available online at https://www.doverlibrary.org/tornado-alley/ and can be checked out from the Dover Public Library’s Teen Room.
