The event

The Dover Public Library invites the musically curious to Ukulele Jam sessions taking place the second and fourth Saturday of each month at 10:30 AM in the library’s Community Room. These events are free and open to all skill levels. Registration is not required. Interested patrons can call the library at 330-343-6123 for more information.

Those participants who do not own a ukulele or just want to try it out before committing can borrow one. The library has five ukuleles available to check out and five more available for in-library use.

The library’s original classes covered the basics of tuning, holding, and playing the ukulele. Each class included a few easy songs to get started playing right away, and some classes even had themes like rock and roll or Christmas. As interest grew, other ukulele enthusiasts took on leadership roles so there could be more classes and practice sessions. Now, group leader Paula Hostetler organizes a set list for each biweekly jam session that can be picked up at the library or shared via email.

At any session, you’re likely to see anywhere from ten to fourteen players of all skill levels, backgrounds, and ages. Sessions generally last an hour to an hour and a half. Patrons are welcome to contact Liz Strauss at strausel@doverlibrary.org for more information or tips on getting started playing ukulele.
