Fall programs for kids at Dover Library
The event
The Dover Public Library is back with their fall programming beginning September 6 with the Reading Dragon Kickoff Party from 11am-3pm. Join Ms. Chris Saturday September 6 and claim your Dragon Tracker. “Kids can come discover which Dragon Keeper team they belong to and earn stars for their team by embarking on a scavenger hunt” said Chris Metzger Children’s Programming Specialist. Kids can also earn a special holographic card by designing a dragon scale to be added to a mural in the children’s department. Chris added, “kids can design a dragon bookmark, enjoy some snacks and enter into a drawing for Dragon Masters book set 1-5 written by Tracey West.” Dragon cards was created by Dover’s own Librarians Mallory Thompson and Liz Strauss. Dragon cards are used now all over the United States and in different countries around the world. “Mallory has been contacted by libraries in New Zealand and recently Scotland to use the dragon card program” stated Jen Gardner Children’s Department Manager. Dragon cards is a free to use program that tracks children’s reading and in turn they receive collecting cards. Kids can use these cards to play a game similar to rock, paper, scissors. Different libraries share their cards and ideas which creates a great network of creativity and fun. The Dover library holds at least 2 dragon events each year for kids to play each other for prizes and to make fun dragon card items.
