Fashion Show Highlights Guatemalan Styles

/ September 13, 2025

The event

A group of women from our Latina Mayan community are pleased to present a fashion show on Saturday, September 13 at 6:30 PM at Fourth & Faith in downtown Dover. The women will showcase vibrant traditional attire and share the cultural significance behind the intricate patterns woven into their skirts and the symbolic figures embroidered on their blouses.

Guatemalan weaving is a vibrant, centuries-old Mayan tradition of creating textiles using the backstrap loom and other techniques, producing items like blouses, skirts, hair ribbons and belts. The designs woven into the textiles are related to spirituality, lineage and community.

“I am so proud of these two young women – Mariela and Yohayra,” says Belinda Lentz. They came up with the idea, enlisted the aid of family and friends so that they could share the beauty of the clothing worn by the models. They are creative and show us a perfect example of family and community working together.”

This event will be held on Saturday, September 13 at 6:30 PM at Fourth & Faith on the corner of E. Fourth Street and N. Wooster Ave next to St. John’s United Church of Christ.  Register online at www.doverlibrary.org/events or call the library at 330-343-6123.
