Genealogy Websites for Beginners
The event
Have you been interested in researching your genealogy but don’t know where to start, or have you hit a brick wall in your research? The Tuscarawas County Public Library will host genealogy classes this summer for people at all stages of research.
On June 2nd, the library will host “Genealogy Websites for Beginners.” This 6:00 PM class will teach the basic websites to help you get started with your family history research.
Continue your family history exploration on June 10th by attending “Intro to Find a Grave” at 6:00 PM. This class will introduce the database Find a Grave, how to search for headstones, and how to contribute to online memorials.
Then use your research skills during the “Find a Grave: Headstone Hunters” programs at the Fair Street Cemetery on June 14th and the East Avenue Cemetery on July 19th at 10:00 AM. Search for headstones that users have requested and contribute to memorials discovered missing on Find a Grave.
“These classes are great for anyone who thinks they may be interested in researching their family history,” said Gina Merrill, Public Service Associate. “The classes highlight the resources available at your County Library to research your family tree at no cost.”
To dive deeper into researching your family tree, the Library offers Book a Genealogist sessions on June 4th, June 25th, July 16th, or July 30th. Schedule a 90-minute session between 11:00 AM-4:30 PM to let a genealogy specialist help you discover your family history.
All of these classes are free of charge and open to the public, but registration is required. Registration may be done by visiting the library’s online event calendar at tusclibrary.org or by calling 330-364-4474. The Main Library is located at 121 Fair Ave NW, New Philadelphia. Fair Street Cemetery is located on Fair Ave NE and the East Avenue Cemetery is located at 1520 Delaware Dr SE in New Philadelphia.
