HALT THE HYDROGEN HOAX program at Dover Library
The event
Environmental scientist Dr. Randi Pokladnik will be at the Dover Public Library on Saturday, February 8 at 2:00 PM to present a program titled “Stop the Hydrogen Hoax.” Dr. Pokladnik will explain the many types of hydrogen production and explore the issues with hydrogen being used as an energy carrier, including costs, climate effects, safety and health issues. She will discuss why hydrogen will not provide a path to carbon neutrality.
In the fall of 2023, the Biden Administration’s Department of Energy (DOE) announced a $7-billion dollar investment in seven regional hydrogen hubs financed through the Inflation Reduction Act. One of those hubs, the Appalachian Regional Clean Hydrogen Hub or ARCH2, will see projects spanning across the states of Ohio, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania. While some see hydrogen as the new “green energy”, a closer look shows there are many issues with hydrogen being used as an energy carrier.
Dr. Randi Pokladnik was born and raised in the Ohio Valley. She earned an associate degree in Environmental Engineering, a BA in Chemistry and an MA and Ph.D. in Environmental Studies. She is a retired research chemist and teacher. She is an active writer, she is a member of FaCT, a faith based organization educating people about fracking and climate change; a volunteer teacher for Mid-Ohio Valley Climate Action; and a volunteer for Save Ohio Parks. She has received several environmental awards including the Ohio Valley Environmental Coalition’s Fracktivist of the Year. She has been an environmental activist in the Ohio River Valley for over 50 years.
