Coming Soon
The event
The Tuscarawas County Public Library System will host local historian Noel Poirier on Thursday, October 17th at 6:30 PM at its Main Library. Poirier will discuss séances and slates in New Philadelphia.
Poirier will delve into the 19th-century spiritualism movement involving communication with the deceased through séances and mediums. In Tuscarawas County, a notable citizen and newspaper editor, Major Charles H. Mathews, supported spiritualism, arranging séances and welcoming mediums like W.A. Mansfield into his New Philadelphia home.
