Program on life and culture of Guatemala

/ September 18, 2025

The event

Jeff Bray, Youth and Family Director at the Tuscarawas County YMCA, offers an overview of life and culture in Guatemala on Thursday, September 18 at 12:15 at the Tuscarawas County Senior Center. Bray will speak about daily life in the regions the local immigrants come from and the Mayan languages they speak. Bray will explain why they leave their homeland and how they make their journey to the United States. He will speak about interacting with and building trust with families new to our area. Attendees will gain a better understanding of the local Guatemalan population.

After graduating from The Ohio State University, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Criminology and a minor in Sociology, Jeff Bray participated in The World Race, an 11 month trip around the world. He has  been a tutor for English Language Learners, a liaison, and a forensic interviewer for various local agencies including New Philadelphia Schools, Latino Cultural Connections, and Noah’s Hope. He is currently the Youth and Family Director at the YMCA. While most of his work is focused locally, Jeff has traveled to 35 countries on 5 continents. He has visited Guatemala six times in order to engage with the community.
