Reluctant readers can paws to read at the Tuscarawas County Public Library System’s Main Library and Bolivar Branch this fall.
Children in kindergarten through 5th grade are invited to practice their reading skills in one-on-one sessions with a certified therapy dog or a Flemish bunny.
“These programs were created to help kids gain confidence, improve their reading skills, and provide a reading buddy eager to listen without judgment,” said Children’s Services Manager Mary Smrek.
Certified therapy dog Joe will be at the Main Library on select Tuesdays at 6:00 PM starting September 10th. Children can also read to Tucker a Flemish Bunny at the Bolivar Branch on Thursday, October 17th and November 21st at 6:00 PM.
Kids can register for 15-minute time slots by calling the Main Library at 330-364-4474, the Bolivar Branch at 330-874-2720, or visiting the library’s online event calendar at tusclibrary.org. The Main Library is located at 121 Fair Ave. NW in New Philadelphia and the Bolivar Branch is located at 455 West Water Street.
