Zoar Free Speaker Series: John Quincy Adams’ Ohio Visit
The event
Historic Zoar Village continues its Free Speaker Series on Saturday, September 3rd at 11am in the Zoar School House. Tom O’ Grady will present “An Astronomical Expedition by Canal and Stagecoach: John Quincy Adams Crosses Ohio in 1843.” As president in 1825, Adams called for the establishment of an astronomical observatory. As a congressman more than 15 years later, he traveled through Ohio to give a dedication address and lay the cornerstone for the Cincinnati Observatory. The facility began operations in 1945 and remains one of the oldest functioning observatories in the U.S. No reservations are required.
