Fire destroys Newcomerstown garage full of dirt bikes and ATVs

| April 13, 2022

NEWCOMERSTOWN – An early morning blaze has destroyed a storage garage and all its contents at the intersection of state Route 258 and Delaware Road Southwest.

Newcomerstown firefighter Heather Stein-Wells says the owner indicates there had been tools along with 21 dirt bikes and all-terrain vehicles in all located within the garage.

She says there is no damage estimate yet but, “the dollar amount is going to be pretty substantial.”

Stein-Wells says a passerby discovered the fire and alerted the homeowner at about 2:30 am.

Nobody was injured.

She says firefighters arrived to a fully involved structure fire.

The extreme heat also caused minimal damage to the home’s front porch.

“When we attacked the fire, we made sure we kept the fire from spreading to the house which was just a few feet away from the garage,” she said.

Stein-Wells says the cause of the fire is undetermined and under investigation.

“We don’t believe anything suspicious in nature,” said Stein-Wells.

Firefighters were on the scene for approximately two and a half hours.

Delaware Valley firefighters and Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s deputies also responded.
