BOLIVAR (WTUZ ) (Sept. 11, 2025)  – Excavation is continuing on the grounds of Fort Laurens to map out where a portion of Ohio’s only Revolutionary War fort will be reconstructed.

The original fort was built in 1778 but abandoned just months later.

Historical site director Tammi Shrum says archeologists working on the project have unearthed some interesting discoveries, such as the original location of the site’s flagpole, where a new one has now been placed.

She says people can also get involved with the digs during public archeology days listed on the Fort Laurens Facebook page.

She says they’re hoping to get the reconstruction and other site improvements done by 2028 for the fort’s 250th anniversary.
