Free scrap tire drop-off site generating strong initial interest
NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (July 31, 2023) – New Philadelphia Health Department officials are pleased with the initial response to their free scrap tire disposal collections. The department last month started accepting old tires at the city garage from 1 to 4 p.m on Thursdays through a partnership with the Stark-Tusc-Wayne Recycling District.
Environmental Health Director Zachary Phillips says it’s been getting a lot of use.
Phillips says the tires are stacked into a bin rented from Kimble Companies. Once full, the district takes the bin of tires up north to be recycled for mulch or other purposes.
Phillips says people wanting to drop off tires must first call The New Philadelphia Health Department to make an appointment at 330-364-4491 ext. 1206.
They also have to bring a driver’s license to track how many tires they are dropping off since there’s a limit of 10 per year at no charge.
