LOUISVILLE – In girls soccer, the host Leopards defeated Dover 4-0 Wednesday.

Louisville is 3-1-1 on the season and has only allowed two goals so far in four games. The Leopards got goals from: Alyssa Schillig (assist: Reagan Biery), Payton Allan (Alyssa Schillig), Reese Riley (Violet Lab) and Gianna Kruse (Reese Riley).

Dover Coach James Kline provided this wrapup:

On a beautiful Wednesday night, we traveled to Louisville to take on a tough, talented, technical and hard working Leopards team. We knew they were going to be tough and a team that capitalizes on any mistakes. Unfortunately, we were reassured of that quickly when the Leopards got on the board early when they earned a corner six minutes into the game. They played a nice deep ball to the back post to find an open runner who made the most of her opportunity. A positive about the goal was it definitely woke us up and we played some tough soccer for the next twenty minutes. However, the Leopards relentless workrate started to wear on us. With five and half minutes left in the half they were able to find another goal off a shot that hit the crossbar and bounced to another Leopard who finished their second goal of the half. Soccer has some weird and consistent tendencies and oftentimes the five minutes directly after giving up a goal teams are very vulnerable to give up another one. It happened to us, two and a half minutes later the Leopards continued to try and find more goals when they worked for a nice cross and found another open runner on the back post who finished a nice one touch shot into the bottom corner of the net. The damage was done and we ended the first half, 3-0.

At halftime, we discussed the challenge for us now was to not let this game get out of hand, prove that we can play better and try to find at least one goal that we could try to build into a second and third. We were able to complete two of those challenges in the second half. The girls came out in the second half a more determined and fired up group. We earned a few chances and limited the Leopards to only a few dangerous opportunities. However, with ten minutes left, the Leopards found one more goal. Elizabeth Lane ended with 14 saves and we lost, 4-0.

The loss brings our overall record to 4-2, but the losing experience is going to pay dividends for the rest of the year. We were able to see some things that we need to iron out and adjust moving forward. We have the opportunity to right the ship against a 6-0 Steubenville team on Saturday as we travel there for a 1:00 PM Varsity start time.
