Gov. DeWine cuts ribbon on BCC’s new $6M medical training facility

| August 24, 2025

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Aug. 24, 2025) – Buckeye Career Center has kicked off the new school year by celebrating the opening of its new medical training facility for students with some high-profile guests.

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and First Lady Fran DeWine cut the ribbon on the $6 million addition Friday.  They were joined by members of the Ohio legislature, mayors, superintendents of schools that partner with Buckeye Career Center, and many others.

The project was funded with $2.8 million out of $300 million set aside by the legislature to address waiting lists and expansion needs at career technical centers across the state.

DeWine says it was well worth it.

Buckeye Career Center Superintendent Bob Alsept acknowledged everyone who helped make it a reality.  He says the new facility will impact the future of healthcare for not only the region, but also the state.

He described it as a whirlwind of a project. Grant funds were requested in the fall of 2023. Awards were released in early 2024. Ground was broken in September of 2024, and the facility is now open and educating students just under a year later.

DeWine was also gifted with a knife from Warther Cutlery in Dover and a cutting board with an engraved message personally thanking him during Friday’s ceremony.
