Healthy Tusc to reveal latest community needs assessment results

| November 19, 2024

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Nov. 18, 2024) – We’re about to find out Tuscarawas County’s biggest health and wellness challenges.

Healthy Tusc is inviting everyone to Kent Tusc Founder’s Hall on Thursday from 8 to 10 am for a free event called “Creating a Thriving Community.” Chairperson Jennifer Demuth says it’s to reveal the community’s “health status,” as determined by this past summer’s online survey of over 700 Tuscarawas County adults.

“We’ll look at things from what are the basic health needs? Are people struggling with diabetes? Are they struggling with arthritis? We’ll look at health behaviors: Are they struggling with tobacco use, addiction? Do they have challenges with feeling sad or depressed?”

Breakfast snacks will be available while supplies last, and participants will get to help Healthy Tusc and its member agencies decide which health and wellness needs to prioritize.

“Anyone who wants to help improve the health and overall quality of life of Tuscarawas County residents is welcome to attend. It is geared toward adults, and we do welcome college students, especially college students who are going into a health career or a social services career.”

Established in 2010, Healthy Tusc is made up of local health and human service organizations including both hospitals and health departments. Demuth says they conduct one of these community health needs assessments every three years.
