NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Dec. 30, 2024) – Tuscarawas County’s new state rep is reaffirming her commitment to the community as she gets ready to head to Columbus.

Empower Tusc Coordinator Jodi Salvo is stepping down from that role to represent Ohio’s 51st House District after defeating incumbent Brett Hillyer in the primary and her Democrat Joe Rhinehart in November. She says she’s humbled and grateful for the opportunity and will work tirelessly for residents of Tuscarawas and southern Stark Counties.

“I’m excited to get to work. I truly believe that we live in one of the greatest areas in all of the State of Ohio, and I’m committed to ensuring that our communities continue to thrive.”

A legion of supporters joined Salvo at the Tuscarawas County Courthouse earlier today/on Monday as Judge Adam Wilgus administered the Oath of Office.

“I can’t think of a more fitting environment than the Juvenile Court considering that Jodi has dedicated her career to the children and families of Tuscarawas County. So it’s a pleasure to host you all today and it’s an even bigger pleasure and honor to be able to do this for Jodi.”

Empower Tusc Chairman and former state rep Kerry Metzger led the campaign to elect Salvo and has the utmost confidence in her abilities.

“I must say Jodi did surprise me with this when she announced that she was considering running for state rep. I didn’t expect that to necessarily happen but what a great moment that was because I know because of Jodi’s background she’s going to make an excellent, excellent state representative.”

State Senator Al Landis also joined Salvo on the campaign trail and looks forward to working alongside her in Columbus.

“Actually, I think I’m going to be working for her, too, because I think she’s going to introduce some very, very good legislation that I hope to take up on the Senate side and I hope to pass…that is gonna be beneficial to all of Ohio and especially to the 51st Ohio House District.”

Salvo is also leaving Ohio Guidestone, where she served as the Director of Substance Use Prevention Services. Her husband of nearly 34 years says he realized before she did that she had a higher calling.

“I believe God put this journey on my heart before Jodi – that this is what he had in mind for her – and I appreciate His grace and mercy in helping me see it first so I was equipped when she decided to answer Him with, ‘Yes. Send me.’”

As State Rep, Salvo says she will ‘listen, learn, and act in the best interest of our communities. She asks for everyone’s continued support and prayers.
