NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (May 23, 2023) – Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Central Ohio is honoring and recognizing success stories within the organization for a local milestone.

President Beverly Pearch says the group has its annual Celebration of Potential event this evening at Buckeye Career Center where they will also be marking 50 years as an agency in the area.

“The Celebration of Potential is a time for us to join together and celebrate the groups and individuals that make our mission possible,” Pearch said.

Pearch says they have invited former Bigs and Littles to speak at tonight’s event. But don’t call these reunions.

“Honestly, a lot of the people that we talk to, the Bigs and the Littles, they’ve kept in contact with each other throughout the years,” she said.

Pearch says Big Brothers Big Sisters has only grown during its existence here.

“Fifty years ago, whenever the agency was started, it was just for little brothers that were in the New Philadelphia area,” she said.

Pearch says their service area eventually expanded into Carroll County, and then Harrison County this year, making them the third largest Big Brothers Big Sisters agency in Ohio.
