Local highway patrol post selects 2023 trooper, dispatcher of the year
NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Nov. 27, 2023) – We should know in the next few weeks if the New Philadelphia Highway Patrol Post’s end-of-year award recipients are in the running for statewide honors.
The post’s Trooper of the Year for 2023 is Alex Carroll, and Dispatcher of the Year is William Courtright. Sergeant Brian Hawkins says the two of them were selected by their colleagues at the post and are now in consideration for districtwide recognition.
“They do an interview – which actually Trooper Carroll went down there today for his and Dispatcher Courtright went down yesterday – to see if they would be selected for the district trooper and dispatcher of the year. And if by chance they are selected for that, then they move on to the state level.”
The award is a first for Carroll but not Courtright.
“This will be I believe he said his eighth year that he’s won that honor here at this post, and last year he won the award for the whole state of Ohio for the highway patrol.”
Courtright joined the highway patrol in 2012 and Caroll five years later. Hawkins says both are extremely knowledgeable and dedicated to their positions.
