Lots of sirens around Union Hospital Tuesday night but no fire

DOVER – Several area fire departments responded to a call about smoke in the building at Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital Tuesday night. Thankfully, there was no fire.
Capt. Brooks Ross says when responders heard about the smoke just after 8 p.m., they upgraded the call to a first alarm structure fire assignment as a precaution.
However, further investigation found the smoke was actually steam or some kind of vapor from a malfunctioning machine meant to control the humidity in a computer server room in the basement.
Dover, New Philadelphia, Bolivar, Strasburg, and Smith Ambulance crews responded but most were quickly sent home.
With a big, populated facility like a hospital, “It’s better to have the cavalry come and cancel them than wait until it’s too late,” Ross said.
