Mayor convenes task force to develop citywide active shooter response plan

| June 16, 2022

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (June 16, 2022) – City leaders are coming together to create a community-wide active shooter response plan.

Mayor Joel Day says he’s convening a safety task force that will begin by meeting with officials from the school systems in the city.

“The goal will be to review each institution’s active shooter and other security measures so that our police and fire departments learn them and can offer recommendations to improve them.”

He says the city’s department heads discussed the idea during a recent staff meeting.

“All agreed that it was time to create a proactive “See Something, Say Something” campaign that will discover security shortfalls, teach prevention, and allow us to respond as a community to any threats.”

Day says once their discussions with school officials are complete, task force members will meet with representatives from area churches and businesses to work on safety plans for those establishments.
