Mayor credits Dover city employees for saving coworker’s life

| February 4, 2026

DOVER – Mayor Shane Gunnoe is crediting two city employees with saving the life of a coworker.

He says general services employees Jon Ladrach and Brody Ferrell were fueling their vehicles on Jan. 22 when co-worker Aiden Barrett slipped on some ice and was knocked unconscious. The fall caused an obstruction in his throat that cut off his breathing. Gunnoe says Ferrell cleared the obstruction and Ladrach performed CPR to restore Barrett’s breathing until paramedics arrived.

Gunnoe said Barrett is back on the job.

“The fire department said they did a miraculous job,” Gunnoe said. “He experienced a total and complete recovery, but had it not been for those employees and their quick action, it could have had a more tragic outcome.”

Gunnoe and City Council are creating a resolution to commend the two employees and recognize them at a future meeting.
