Medical marijuana regulations now part of Strasburg’s zoning code

| August 11, 2022

STRASBURG (WJER) (Aug. 5, 2022) – Medical marijuana businesses wanting to set up in the village now how to go through its planning commission.

Council this week approved an ordinance regulating the production and sale of medical-grade cannabis. Mayor Steve Smith says it allows businesses engaging in those activities to set up in non-residential districts.

“Within a commercial, business or industrial zoning district but only upon application to and approval by the planning commission.”

Council members at a work session in June agreed to move forward with that policy over one that would have prohibited medical marijuana businesses in the village. Smith was supportive of the decision.

“It’s a viable business, and we just want to offer them the same opportunity that every other business has.”

Dispensaries and similar businesses wanting to set up in Strasburg are still subject to the requirements of the Ohio Revised Code, meaning they can’t be within 500 feet of schools, parks, playgrounds, churches, and daycare centers.
