Mishap involving tanker damages Dennison FD’s new garage

DENNISON (WJER) (April 25, 2022) – Mayor Greg DiDonato says arrangements are being made to repair the fire department’s new garage after a firefighter struck the side of one of its bays with the tanker truck.

He says one of the department’s regular volunteers was pulling the truck for a call a couple of Sundays ago and turned the wheel too soon.

“I watched the video and… he actually had to stop and have a car go by, so he had a third of it out. The cab was out so there was no speed involved. It’s just the case he made the turn before he was out the building.”

DiDonato says the hose block mounted on the back hit the building, cracking part of its masonry base.

“It’s amazing but the truck didn’t get damaged. It’s just got a little scuff on the stainless steel that you can buff out.”

Dennison received over $200,000 in grants and donations to build the garage, which opened its doors last summer. An insurance adjuster estimated the repairs would cost at least $7,000, although DiDonato says the village will only have to pay a $1,000 deductible.
