Miss Clayland vying for statewide crown
MANSFIELD (WJER) (June 13, 2024) – It’s a big week for the reigning Miss Clayland.
Brittney Putman is in Mansfield competing for the statewide crown and the chance to become the next Miss America. Miss Clayland Program Director Martha Campbell will be there for the on-stage portion of the competition, which begins this evening.
“She’ll be competing in talent, evening wear, fitness, and on-stage question. Thursday and Friday are the preliminary nights of that competition and then we start out the competition on Saturday night, they will name the top 11, who will then compete in all those phases again to determine who our new Miss Ohio will be.”
Brittney is a junior at OSU majoring in Human Development and Family Science. Her community service initiative involves advocating for the children of individuals with substance abuse issues and was inspired by her own upbringing.
“When you meet her and you speak with her, you really feel like she is being totally honest and very true to herself. She will talk about her issues that she’s gone through in her life, talk about the good things in her life and the bad things in her life.”
Campbell feels Brittney has represented Tuscarawas County well despite growing up elsewhere.
“I think something that’s very important is that whoever becomes Miss Clayland understands the importance of coming back and giving back to this community. She has been back here multiple times like as a storyteller for The Polar Express. She came in for the Ohio State Alumni’s Kids Crafternoon event. She’s been here for a couple of parades.”
Six past Miss Claylands have been crowned Miss Ohio but the only one who has ever gone on to become Miss America was Susan Perkins back in 1977.
