Mosquito spraying set for south side of New Philadelphia tonight
NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (July 21, 2023) – City health officials are letting residents on the south side of town know that the mosquito sprayer truck will be in their neighborhood this evening.
New Philadelphia Health Department Environmental Health Director Zachary Phillips says they plan to start around 8:45 p.m. tonight from Commercial Avenue down to the Southside Community Park, in response to some complaints from that area about mosquitoes.
“Steadily, the population has been getting higher, and we got a handful of calls, so I decided it was a good time to start spraying,” said Phillips.
Phillips says people in that part of town with respiratory issues should keep their windows closed at that time to avoid the spray.
“It shouldn’t really do anything to you, it’ll be out of your system pretty quick,” he said, “It’s generally harmless.”
Phillips says the mist kills mosquitoes within a few hours of contact. The mist will also dissipate within a few hours of being sprayed.
