NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Feb. 7, 2025)  – Drivers are again able to access both lanes of U.S. 250 westbound approaching New Philadelphia and the Schoenbrunn exit.

Ohio Department of Transportation District 11 Spokeswoman Lauren Borell says crews had closed one lane of the road and the exit ramp following an overnight mishap.

“Earlier this morning around 3:30 we received reports of debris on the road right there off the Schoenbrunn exit – it’s 250 – and also on the ramp,” Borell said. “That was due to mud from a dump truck that lost a portion of its load.”

Traffic heading to Kent State Tuscarawas and Buckeye Career Center was advised to take the Midvale Exit to Brightwood Road.

Borell says the ramp and lane were closed for about four hours as workers with pressure washers cleared away the mud.

“Our crews immediately responded and were out there cleaning all morning, and we also had assistance from the New Philadelphia Fire Department as well to help remove that off the roadway,” she said.

This followed another incident in that same area needing cleanup a day earlier.

“We had a truck that went down 250 from the Schoenbrunn exit to 77, and they were losing stone all over the road,” said Borell.

Borell says, as a reminder, the OHGO App can notify drivers about road incidents on their commute before leaving home.

“If that is a route, or any route you’re taking – state, U.S., interstate – you can set up customized alerts through the OHGO app.  So, you can let it know your start and end place, and anything that comes up, as far as any crashes or traffic delays, will be communicated to your smartphone if you have the notifications set up,” said Borell.

ODOT has been telling drivers with any vehicle damage as a result of the debris from this morning’s incident to report the information here and it will be forwarded to the district office for attention.
