New Phila hosting virtual item sale

| November 8, 2023

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Nov. 8, 2023) – The city’s surplus property and impound auction is online only this year.

Bidding opened at midnight Wednesday at rickkefferauctions.com and ends next Friday, Nov. 17, at 5 pm. Retired school resource officer Jennifer Horner organized past city auctions and is helping out again this year.

“Whenever the chief asked me about it, I said, ‘Well, why don’t we do it online because it’s a lot of work to put an auction on,’ and this way people have more time to look leisurely 24 hours a day at what they want to buy.’

The auction features used machinery, vehicles, and equipment from various city departments along with unclaimed bicycles and lost and found items.

“I don’t know that there’s any good jewelry but even costume jewelry is kind of fun. There’s like a nice mixture of all different kind of stuff. There’s a little scooter. There’s a mini bike that’s brand new. I don’t think they ever determined where it was stolen from and so I think someone will get a good buy on that.”

There’s an in-person viewing on Monday from 5 to 7 pm.

“You can come to either the street department down off 416 to view most of the vehicles: the backhoe, the tractors. We have two vehicles and all the bicycles and the tools and everything at, we call it the bike garage but it’s there by the boat ramp behind the ballfields. You have to go in off of Mill Avenue.”

You’ll need a credit card to register and bid on items but can pay with cash or check at pickup.
