New Philadelphia man who killed dog now pleads guilty to stabbing friend

| July 25, 2022

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (July 25, 2022) – A New Philadelphia man whose criminal background includes stabbing a dog to death pleaded guilty Monday to stabbing a person in April.

Judge Elizabeth Thomakos sentenced 59-year-old Adam Soto to three to 4 1/2 years in prison for felonious assault. Tuscarawas County Assistant Prosecutor Fred Scott says Soto was sentenced to an additional two years in prison for violating his probation for a separate assault case that happened in 2020.

“That gives him a total of a minimum of five years to a maximum of seven and a half years in prison,” Scott said.

Scott says Soto attacked his now former 50-year-old friend April 6 at a home in 200 block of Front Avenue SW.

“The victim was happy with the result, and I think the community is a little bit safer today,” Scott said.

Soto’s last stint in prison was six months for killing his pet bulldog with a knife and hatchet in July 2020.
