New Philadelphia Patrol Post hosting community blood drive
NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (July 7, 2023) – State troopers will be rolling up their sleeves Friday to help the organization that provides blood to Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital replenish its supply.
A Vitalant bloodmobile will be parked outside of the New Philadelphia Patrol Post for five hours, from 10 until 3, collecting donations from staff and community members. Regional Field Recruiter Nick Sutterluety organized the blood drive and plans to give toward the cause.
“I’m gonna donate for sure, and then I know our maintenance repair worker, Jeremiah, he’s gonna donate and I’m hoping we can get as many of the troopers and dispatchers there to donate as possible.”
He was one of 23 donors at the post’s first blood drive for Vitalant last summer and hopes to see more participation during this one.
“So I’m shooting for 24 or more this year, and I know as of two days ago we had eight online appointments scheduled so hopefully there’s more.”
The collection follows a “Cram the Cruiser” food drive the post hosted last month for the Salvation Army in Minerva.
“We’re humans just like everybody else. You know, we all have hearts behind our badges and it’s crucial that we get out and show that and show that we care about you and we’re not just there to write tickets and handle crashes. We like getting involved with our community.”
Walk-ups are welcome during Friday’s blood drive, although you can skip the line and earn rewards by pre-registering at vitalant.org. The organization will be rewarding donors with a free cooler while supplies last.
