Fatal crash comes days after suspect claims involvement in other ‘tragic wreck’

| March 22, 2024

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (March 22, 2024) – New Philadelphia state troopers are investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash involving a suspected drunk driver who apparently claimed on social media to have been in another ‘tragic wreck’ this past weekend.

The most recent accident happened shortly after 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20th, on county Road 10 in Carroll County’s Augusta Township, northeast of Carrollton.

Sgt. Clinton Armstrong says an SUV driven by 26-year-old Dakota Kincaid of East Rochester went left of center, striking an oncoming minivan driven by 71-year-old Patrick Snow of Malvern.

Snow’s vehicle went off the right side of the road, struck a tree and overturned. He was wearing a seatbelt. Snow was taken to a Canton hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

According to the press release, Kincaid was not wearing a seat belt and also taken to a Canton hospital for serious injuries.

Armstrong says alcohol is a suspected factor.

“There were officers that spoke with him at the hospital and there were indicators while speaking with him that he was under the influence,” Armstrong said.

This comes after a Facebook account under Kincaid’s name made a post days earlier, on March 17th, about having been involved in a ‘tragic wreck’ the previous night, while having just reached six months of sobriety.

Armstrong declined to address the post.

“That’s nothing I can comment on at this time,” said Armstrong.

A records search on the Ohio Department of Public Safety website returned one crash report involving Kincaid for March 17th that can be found HERE.

Armstrong says charges will be pending for Wednesday night’s crash once the investigation is complete.
