New playground at Strasburg Park to honor longtime village employee

| May 25, 2022

STRASBURG (WJER) (May 24, 2022) – Village leaders are memorializing a longtime Water Department employee with a plaque at the park’s new play area.

Mayor Steve Smith proposed the honor for Neal Dickerhoof, who is described in his obituary as an avid bicycle rider who was employed by the village for 25 years and loved socializing with his family and friends around a campfire.

“He was a very healthy-minded individual, bicycled throughout town, always had a smile on his face, and he would just bend over backward to do anything for anybody.”

Council members authorized the tribute last Tuesday and gave Smith permission to dedicate the play area to Dickerhoof. Councilwoman Kathy Burrier also offered her condolences.

“I just would like to express deep sympathy for the Dickerhoof family, and Neal will be missed.”

Dickerhoof died May 12th at age 60 following a six-month battle with COVID-19. He leaves behind his wife Michelle, an adult daughter, and his trusty bicycle, “Princess.”
