NP Police: Canton man stole tow truck, got stuck in cul-de-sac

| November 6, 2025

NEW PHILADLEPHIA – A 21-year-old Canton man is the Tuscarawas County Jail after police say he stole a tow truck and got it stuck in a New Philadelphia cul-de-sac.

Hunter Mast is being held on $10,000 bail on charges of felony grand theft of a motor vehicle, OVI and obstructing official business. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 12.

According to a New Philadelphia Police report, a caller reported a Performance Towing tow truck was stuck in the South Broadway cul-de-sac around 4:40 in the morning on Tuesday. It says the driver of the truck ran over trash cans and a metal railing and couldn’t get out of the cul-de-sac.

The owner of the tow truck told police it was parked at the business on Howe Street in Dover, about 2 ½ miles away, the night before. He said no one had permission to operate it.

Police took Mast into custody and booked him in the Tuscarawas County Jail where he remained as of Thursday afternoon.
