Officer honored for saving two boys from burning duplex porch roof

| August 29, 2023

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Aug. 29, 2023) – The city police officer who talked two children into safely jumping from the porch roof of a burning duplex last month is getting more praise.

At Monday night’s council meeting, Mayor Joel Day read from a certificate of commendation presented to Officer Mark Sadolsky for his heroic actions at Southwood Drive Southwest the evening of July 12th.

“Because of Officer Sadolsky’s quick response and bravery, along with the excellent teamwork of all police and fire personnel on site, the best possible outcome was achieved, and no injuries were sustained during the fire,” said Day.

Video from Sadolsky’s cruiser dash cam showing him race to the fire and make the rescue was played for council to see.

“We’re very fortunate to have what we have, well-trained people that are dedicated to the job” said Parrish. “Our police officers hit it out of the park every day, as well as our firefighters.”
