Prescription drop-offs increase during Take Back Day event

| April 25, 2023

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (April 25, 2023) – Empower Tusc officials say they are pleased with the area’s participation in this past weekend’s National Drug Take Back Day event for the spring.

Coalition Coordinator Jodi Salvo says residents dropped off 151.6 pounds of unused or unwanted medication at Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital and 23.4 pounds at Trinity Hospital Twin City on Saturday.

She says that’s compared to 113 pounds at Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital and 15 pounds at Trinity Hospital Twin City a year ago.

“Our take back poundage was up at both facilities,” said Salvo. “It’s just important for our residents to know that is medication that had potential for abuse out in our community,” she added.

Salvo believes advocates who promoted the event can take credit for the increased numbers this year.

“Hopefully, a lot of messaging, and education, and awareness,” said Salvo, “I would hope that would be one piece of the pie.”

The fall National Prescription Drug Take Back Day event is scheduled for October 28th this year.
