Puppy left outside of humane society overnight Monday
NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (June 14, 2023) – The Tuscarawas County Humane Society is asking for help identifying the two men who abandoned a puppy outside of their shelter Monday night.
Shelter Director Haley Predragovich says the puppy was scared and shivering when the staff found him early Tuesday morning crammed inside a tiny crate with his toys and a bag of dog food next to it.
“After taking a look at security cameras – because we do have numerous security cameras throughout our building and around our building – we saw that he actually was dropped off around 10:30 Monday evening by two gentlemen in a white SUV, and so he was sitting out in the cold from 10:30 in the evening until about 8:45 the next morning.”
Predagovich says abandoning pets there or anywhere else is inhumane and illegal.
“We are not an owner surrender facility. However, there are circumstances where we may take an animal, so if they would have just waited until staff was here at 8:45 or 9 am, I probably would have accepted the animal or we would have pointed them in the direction of places that take owner surrenders, so there’s always different outlets than dumping an animal.”
They believe the puppy is five to six months old and have been calling him Ark. Predragovich says he will get checked out by the vet and neutered before going up for adoption.
“He’s kind of nervous and shy around new people. However, I went into his kennel yesterday and this morning, and once I sat down he would just crawl in my lap, give me kisses. So even though he has had a traumatic experience he is wanting to trust and love people still.”
