Railroad Festival to go full steam ahead into weekend
DENNISON (WJER) (June 2, 2023) – The annual Dennison Railroad Festival kicks into high gear today with its first full day of activities downtown.
The festival ran in just the evenings its first two days Wednesday and Thursday. But that changes today, with the midway opening at noon.
Festival Board President Beth DiDonato says she gets enjoyment out of making it happen.
“Just the whole festival, watching families be together, and being out and about,” she said. “The families are the highlight for me.”
One of the popular contests for participants and observers is the kiddie peddle tractor pulls at 6 p.m. Organizer John Rypien says these are sanctioned by the Buckeye State Pedal Pullers.
“Everybody that participates gets a ribbon and the winners get trophies,” said Rypien. “It’s kind of a fun time for the kids.” He says today’s winners get to advance to the state fair for a chance to compete at nationals.
Tonight’s musical entertainment on the two stages features the Ron Retzer Trio and Nashville recording artist Ashley Best, both starting at 7 p.m.
The festival continues through Saturday. That day’s schedule includes the car show at noon, a magician at 2 p.m., the parade at 4 p.m., and more live music on the stages beginning at 7 p.m.
DiDonato is encouraged by the forecast.
“The weather is supposed to be great.” she said. “It’s shaping up to be a good one.”
