Rockets earn trip to state softball tournament

In its inaugural season, the Rockets Unified softball team punched a ticket to the Special Olympics Ohio state softball tournament by defeating two Summit County teams 20-0 and 20-10.
Aaron Kuntzman went the distance on the mound for the Rockets, while Matthew Medley scored six runs (three of those on in-the-park homeruns) for the Rockets. Patrick Dillon and Cage Miller each scored five times for the champions.
The state tournament is September 10th at Sandusky Sports Park.
Team members are Alex Adkins, Gary Calkins, Shawn Ciekanski, Easton Dillon, Patrick Dillon, Rylee Dillon, Steve Hazelip, Deric Johnson, Aaron Kuntzman, Matthew Medley, Cage Miller, and Zach Niven.
The team is coached by Tom Dillon.
The Rockets traditional softball team also competed Sunday, falling to the eventual regional champions from Stark County DD Special Olympics. Starting pitcher Andrew “Junior” Malachin also led the team offensively, along with Cayden Ciekanski. Aidan McClain was the defensive standout. He had a hand in almost half of the Rockets’ putouts.
Team members include Heather Baker, Cayden Ciekanski, Chris Daniska, Joey Fulton, Kitanna Levengood, Andrew Malachin Jr., Samantha Mastroine, Aidan McClain, Miranda Milburn, Jason Murray Jr., Katie Ross, Rachael Russell, Kelcie Williamson, and Logan Wise.
The team is coached by Shawn and Missy Ciekanski and Patrick Dillon.
