NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (June 14, 2023) – New Philadelphia Mayor Joel Day is publicly recognizing three sanitation workers for going out of their way to help a former city official.

During Monday’s city council meeting, Day commended Kyle Doran, Ray Morrow, and Brody Barbee for stopping the truck during pickups on May 19th to help a resident struggling they saw struggling to get a sizeable amount of yard waste to the curb

“They proceeded to stop the truck and all three employees helped the gentleman who just happened to be former mayor Greg Erb carry the remainder of the trash and load it onto the truck.”

When thanked for the extra effort, they reportedly told Erb, ‘We don’t mind. You matter.’

“Our sanitation department workers are among the most visible city employees to the public and they have one of the toughest jobs. It’s physically demanding and must be done in all sorts of weather. These men have earned the recognition because they exemplify what it means to be a public servant.”

Day shared the story and presented the letters of commendation during Monday’s city council meeting.
