Sheriff’s office investigating jailed suspect for recent business and office break-ins

| April 22, 2024

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (April 22, 2024) – Tuscarawas County Sheriff Orvis Campbell says a Zoarville man is in jail awaiting formal charges from the county prosecutor’s office in connection to a string of recent break-ins.

Campbell says his office first responded to an alarm at the Dollar General in Roswell Friday around 3:40 am and then discovered break-ins at Tusky Valley Elementary and the Atwood Dari Bar.

Deputy Chase Newell reviewed security camera footage and entered a truck seen at all three locations into a state database.

Campbell says that led authorities to the home of the 39-year-old suspect, who appeared to have been in the process of trying to alter the appearance of the truck.

He says the suspect is accused of stealing Chromebooks from the office at elementary school, which could have re-sale value. But additional items found include cigarettes, food, and drinks from the other locations.

Campbell says his deputies are working with the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office to determine if this suspect was responsible for a recent theft from a Dollar General store in Sherrodsville.

The suspect was also allegedly found with a pop-up camper that had been reported stolen out of Stark County.
