Stabbing victim dies; suspect charged with aggravated murder

| November 1, 2022

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Nov. 1, 2022) – Charges have been filed against the suspect in Friday’s home invasion and stabbing at a First Drive NE apartment.

33-year-old Corey Harshey is scheduled to appear in New Philadelphia Municipal Court Wednesday morning on a criminal complaint charging him with murder and aggravated murder, felonious assault, and aggravated burglary. The victim was Harshey’s neighbor, who succumbed to his injuries Tuesday at the hospital where he was taken following the attack.

Detective Chaz Willet told WJER News that Harshey appeared to have wounds on his hands, which were wrapped when they found him at his home next door a short time later, but declined medical treatment.

Harshey remains in the Tuscarawas County Jail on a hold order from the Adult Parole Authority ahead of Wednesday’s hearing, during which the judge will set a bond amount and schedule a preliminary hearing.
