NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (April 23, 2024) – The Ohio Department of Transportation is investing a record $2.8-billion into Ohio’s roads and bridges this construction season.

That total includes more than $156 million for 81 new and ongoing projects in District 11. Spokesperson Lauren Borell says there’s one major safety project in Tuscarawas County on state Route 39 west of Dover at the Kimble landfill entrance.

“We’re lowering the profile of the road. So essentially, there’s a bit of a hump there that creates some issues with sight distance and then that includes stopping distance as well, so the road will be lowered to increase that.”

That work has a tentative start date of July 8th and requires a 45-day closure.

“And of course, nobody wants to hear the dreaded ‘c-word.’ However, it’s to eliminate any traffic impacts during the construction and this helps us get it done quicker than maintaining traffic.”

Other local projects being completed this construction season include the work underway on Trenton Avenue in Uhrichsville and I-77 north of the Guernsey County border. Crews will also construct a bike and pedestrian path connecting downtown New Philadelphia with the University Drive corridor.
