Statewide issues driving high early voting turnout

| October 30, 2023

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Oct. 30, 2023) – Thousands of Tuscarawas County residents have already taken advantage of early in-person voting for the November 7th election.

Board of Elections Director Gail Garbrandt says more than 2,100 voters had cast an early ballot at the county courthouse as of 1 pm Monday, and her office had sent out almost 2,400 mail-in ballots.

“We expected a higher turnout with this election because of all of the focus on Issue 1 and Issue 2 that are on the ballot. It’s driving a lot of people to the polls.”

Early voting kicks into high gear this week with extended evening and weekend hours through Sunday.

“I’m sure we’ll have at least 200 this last week and then over the weekend as people realize that window is closing for early voting here at the courthouse.”

The early voting area at the courthouse is now open on weekdays from 7:30 am to 7:30 pm except Tuesday when the doors won’t close until the 8:30 deadline for mail-in ballot applications. Weekend early voting hours are Saturday from 8 to 4 and Sunday from 1 to 5.
