Student artists commended for designing traffic box wraps in downtown New Philadelphia

| July 3, 2023

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (July 3, 2023) – The high school students who designed the artwork selected as wraps on the traffic boxes in downtown New Philadelphia are getting praise from city officials.

Mayor Joel Day at last week’s city council meeting presented certificates of award to three of those students; Ezri Palmer of Strasburg, RaeAnn Haring of New Philadelphia, and Lydia Salazar of Buckeye Career Center.

“It’s so cool just to see your talent displayed in the county seat,” said Day. “We encourage you to continue to pursue your art careers because you’ve got a good start.”

Tuscarawas Arts Partnership Director Wilma Mullet helped develop the project that consisted of entries from a countywide contest, now in its second year.

“You just display some really incredible talent that you definitely should be proud of, representing your school district, your home, your families.” Mullet said to the students.

City Service Director Ron McAbier says those traffic box wraps would be out on display in the coming days.
