CANTON – Dover senior Lucas Lane took first place in the 200-freestyle Saturday at the Northeast Classic at Canton McKinley’s C.T. Branin Natatorium.

His time of 1:38.19 was faster than his 2021 state championship time and his state runner-up time last year in the same event. It’s also a new meet record and a new team record.

Lane also placed fourth in the 100-freestyle Saturday and anchored two place-winning relays, leading the Dover boys to an 11th place finish out of 41 teams.

Cameron Marshall was Dover’s other individual place-winner, finishing 15th in the 200 IM.

The Dover girls swam Saturday, too, finishing near the back of the pack with the 200-free relay team placing 16th and Holly Perkowski placing 16th in the 100 butterfly.

New Philadelphia swam in its first Ohio Cardinal Conference championship meet Saturday. The teams were 7th out of seven, but there were individual highlights with a lot of season and personal bests. Kenny Nguyen placed 3rd in the 500 free and fifth in the 200 free. Alex Haren was sixth in the 50-free and 7th in the 100 butterfly. On the girls side, Jordynne Weese placed fourth in the 50-free and fifth in the 100 free. Kenna Crites was 7th in the 100 free and 9th in the 50 free.
