YORK TWP (WJER) (April 5, 2023) – The owners of a local cleaning business are asking everyone to be on the lookout for the truck a pair of thieves used to make off with their dump trailer early Saturday morning.

The sheriff’s office has been investigating the theft from Shoup’s Cleaning, where security cameras recorded two individuals hooking the trailer up to a white pickup truck with an extended cab and marker lights on top. Owners Doug and Kristen Shoup are hoping to recover the trailer that they used for cleaning jobs, brought to parades, and planned to take to the Noah’s Hope Child Advocacy Center to do some landscaping.

“It was out just in our parking lot but the hitch part of it was locked so they weren’t actually able to hitch it but it appears like they just chained it up and kind of pulled it that way instead.”

They posted photos of the thieves, their truck, and the stolen trailer on the Shoup’s Cleaning Facebook page and had almost 800 shares Wednesday afternoon.

“And I just, I do want to say I’m just thankful for the sheriff’s department and the detectives. They’ve been great as well as all the community support. Everyone is sharing on Facebook and Instagram. I think that’s just wonderful in trying to get this out there and trying to get as many eyes on it as possible.”

The crime may not have been an isolated incident. A second dump trailer was stolen overnight Monday from Schoenbrunn Landscaping on state Route 39. Sheriff’s detectives have been in contact with Dover Police to share information and figure out if the thefts were connected.
