| February 10, 2022

WARWICK TWP (WJER) (Feb. 10, 2022) – Two men are facing criminal charges for a traffic stop during which authorities recovered suspected drugs and a stolen vehicle.

Sheriff’s Sgt. Travis Stocker says it started around 1 am today when a deputy patrolling the Village of Tusky spotted the truck driving along Main Street. He followed it out Route 416, initiating the stop when it reached the intersection of Everett Valley and Myers Hollow. Stocker says the 31-year-old driver, then exited the vehicle feet first, ran to the edge of the road, and tossed bags containing what he claimed were drugs into the embankment.

“It was a pretty good amount of white powder and the other was a green leafy substance. That was shipped off to BCI to their lab so it can be tested.”

Stocker says they ended up calling in Sugarcreek’s K9 to track the man’s passenger, who had taken off into the woods.

“The individual that was driving, he was placed under arrest and suspected drugs were taken from his person and from his immediate area. The individual that fled, he was later located under a brush pile several hundred yards into the woods, and he was also taken into custody.”

The driver is charged with receiving stolen property and the passenger with obstructing official business. A man staying at a motel in New Philadelphia had reported the truck stolen just before midnight Wednesday. He told police a woman who was there with him and her two friends took it along with his wallet and cell phone while he was in the shower. Carroll County Sheriff’s deputies made contact with the woman who had a warrant out for her arrest.
