U.S. 250 Resurfacing Project Near New Philadelphia Progressing Ahead of Schedule

| May 22, 2026

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (May 22, 2026)  — Drivers traveling along U.S. 250 in Tuscarawas County will see smoother roads and fewer disruptions sooner than expected, according to the Ohio Department of Transportation.

ODOT District 11 spokeswoman Lauren Borell says the five-mile resurfacing project stretching from the Interstate 77 interchange in New Philadelphia to the Schoenbrunn exit is making significant progress. The work could be completed within the next few weeks—possibly even before the Fourth of July holiday. That timeline would put the project ahead of the October 31 completion date that was originally listed.

She says while paving may wrap up early,  some follow-up work and temporary lane restrictions could still occur after resurfacing is finished.

For the Memorial Day weekend, drivers can expect minimal disruptions. All four lanes of U.S. 250 will be open, as construction barrels have been removed from the roadway and relocated to the median. In addition, many construction zones across the region are being reduced or temporarily suspended to help ease holiday travel.

However, drivers should be prepared for construction activity to resume shortly after the holiday weekend as crews return to continue and finalize the project.
